Oiva Toikkas design brilliance is on display again with the 2010 iittala Grass Eider. Drawing inspiration from the Common Eider, Toikkas creation is beautifully crafted of an olive green glass encased in rose glass. The interior layer adds depth with air bubbles spaced throughout the body. The head, beak and tail of Grass Eider are crafted from one uncomplicated layer of semi-translucent rose glass to brilliantly add length to the form.
The 2010 collection of birds by Oiva Toikka are individually mouth-blown by the master glassblowers at iittalas glassworks in Nuutajrvi, Finland. Each handcrafted iittala Toikka Grass Eider carries the signature O. Toikka Nuutajrvion its base to ensure its authenticity.
