About Oiva Toikka

Oiva Toikka (1931-2019) is known as one of the most influential designers in Finland’s rich design history. His prolific career began in the 1950’s where he worked with well-known designers throughout the world in many artistic activities covering staging, fashion design, and interior design and products for the home. In the early 1970’s, Toikka started designing what he soon would become most famous for; Birds by Toikka. His unique designs were a break from the traditional clean lines of Finnish design at that time. Crafted by incredibly skilled glassblowers at the Nuutajärvi glass village in Finland, these creative and colorful glass birds have become a passion of collectors worldwide.

Today, Toikka’s exceptional designs are still mouthblown, one at a time, by iittala’s master glassblowers – now at the iittala glass factory in iittala Finland. Each bird crafted is unique by nature, making all Oiva Toikka birds a special prize.
